Steve Edwards — The Godfather of Marathon Running
After running his first marathon at the age of 18 in 1981, Steve has gone on to run 828 official marathon races in an average finish time of 3hrs 18min for each which makes him one of the most successful multi marathon runners in the world today. The Fisiocrem team is helping Steve reach this goal, so read on to see how Steve is using the product.
Hi Steve! Can you tell a bit about yourself?
I’m a 55 year old marathon runner originally from Coventry but have lived in North Gloucestershire for 14 years. I work full time as an IT support analyst, am married to Teresa with one son and 3 grandchildren. I’ve been running since the age of 18 when I ran my first ever race which was a marathon and I vowed never again after not being able to walk properly for a week afterwards! Between 1988 and 2018 I’ve managed to run 828 official marathon races averaging 3hrs 18min which equates to one every 13 days for over 30 years. Having established many multi marathon world records I’m now trying to set a new world record for running 1000 marathons in the fastest average finish time.
How did you get the idea of running 1000 marathons to set a new world record?
In 1988 I set myself a lifetime ambition to try and run 500 official marathon races all under 3hrs 30min and set two new world records, one for running the most marathons under that time standard and the other for running 500 marathons in the fastest average finish time. I was told by many that this would be impossible and as a result thought that if I were to achieve that goal my body would probably be completely worn out, however, having achieved that ambition back in 2012 my 50th birthday year I felt like I could push on and extend those records further. Once I’d got beyond 600 and heading towards 700, the idea of the 1000 marathons record was starting to become more realistic hence the new ambition to go for it.
How have you heard about Fisiocrem and how are you currently using it?
I first heard about Fisiocrem when I received a trial sachet in a goody bag at the end of a marathon. I used it that evening to massage into my legs and found it incredibly soothing. I now use it pretty much daily after training and racing to help sooth tired muscles and also pre race as part of my warm up routine.
In what way is Fisiocrem helping you recover after a marathon?
After racing 26.2 miles, my whole body is extremely tired especially my legs which are usually trashed. However with what I’m trying to achieve I’m running a marathon most weekends so only have a relatively small recovery window before the next race. I therefore need to do everything possible to get rid of the muscle soreness so I can continue training during the week and of course race the following weekend. Good nutrition and hydration are very important in this recovery process however I find that self massaging with Fisiocrem also really helps to alleviate the muscle soreness and I especially like that fact that all the ingredients are natural with good healing properties like Arnica.
The Fisiocrem Team wishes Steve the best of luck in obtaining this world record!
